i have a theory
that the size
of the universe
is measured in
negative numbers:
so small that it
looped over
became big again
thus we are all
collapsing
into ourselves
and each other
brilliant clusters
entwined with
the void
and our expanses
are startled
and crossed
when we touch
and the universe
isn't enough
every nebula or
space where
a star was re-
placed with
something
that wasn't nothing
or a nothing
becoming something
ii.
lately the hole
in my chest
is growing,
so i will observe
the vacuum
and wait for
infinity recurring
a bleak space imploding
chemicals corroding
stark ribs contracting
volatile, reacting
is this a refraction
of some light unsourced
immobility, quiescence,
or bouts of redacting
doubts interacting with stellar patterns
unquell our orbital shackling. we're asking
seas to stay churning while ashes keep spurning
our totems over
in certain collapse
i'm a supernova

Underappreciated
A moth is beautiful
but none choose to praise it.
Instead, monarchs flutter, and suddenly,
twenty-four lines are written about how
its amber coloring
reminds you of autumn's heartbreaks
and winter's futile approach, seizing
the broken vessel you tried to tape
together, but to no avail;
its black outline
reminds you of the eyeliner she wore
day after day, all perfect and pristine,
until one day,
you found her among rosebushes & lilacs
crying out "Why does it always rain?"
Where is her sun?
its slender antennae
reminds you of stilts, splintery and all,

take an evening -
reclassify emotions as chemical compounds.
remove one atom,
see what changes.
take your field notes, transcribe them
back to front.
add line breaks.
be scientific. be too scientific.
replace the word 'entropy'
with the word 'god'.
be so full of want that you can feel it
scraping its numb jaws against your insides.
write about flowers instead.
make your first line provocative.
follow it, let it unfurl -

read, find inspiration.
find new ways to plagiarize old ideas.
stop reading.
hash and rehash,
slash and burn.

I agree with negative numbers given long enough observation... you are just almost never well...
